Open Plan Kitchen

This active couple had lived with their dated and cramped kitchen for years, but dreamed of opening the space to an adjacent family room and adding an island for entertaining and casual dining. Two windows and a single door to a porch limited the options for cabinetry and work spaces. They didn’t use the kitchen table and chairs, but wanted swivel counter stools. Two large dogs also live here, so durability and maintenance was key. The homeowners were ready for everything to go and to bring in relaxed, rustic Farm House style!

I worked with the homeowners on all aspects of the kitchen. Introduced a kitchen designer; joined meetings to explore layout options. Pre-selected options. Met with clients to finalize selections for cabinet style/finishes, hardware, counter top, floor tile, back splash tile, and plumbing fixtures. During demo and install, met on site to review progress.

The wall between the kitchen and family room was removed and two windows were replaced with one centered on the farm sink. The single door to the porch was moved to the family room. The new cabinet layout allows for both owners to work in the space. Additionally, the island make entertaining enjoyable. A neutral color selection compliments the stained wood on the ceiling, range hood and island. Wood look ceramic tile offers beauty with easy maintenance and continues into the adjacent family room. The ceiling coffers also connects the two rooms. Glass pendants combine with recessed fixtures and under cabinet lighting to provide a balance mix of general and task light. Outlets are hidden under cabinets. Easy care quartz counter tops finish the space.
