Elegant Keeping Room

Living with a husband and two sons, there are times when a girl needs a room of her own. In this home with other family gathering spaces, the lady of the home claimed this keeping room as her Girl Room, a space to read, visit with friends or take a break from her busy day.

Location: Athens, Georgia

Designer Credits: Cassy Young, AAS, Allied ASID

Project Overview:

Multiple windows and doors made it difficult for furniture placement. In addition, the space was open to the kitchen eating area. Inconsistent spacing and heights of the windows conflicted with a desire to create a symmetrical shell for the space. This room faces west, and light control was also a big problem.

The floor plan makes the most of the limited space, providing space for gathering. Feminine furniture mixes with a rich palette of chocolate brown, alabaster and blue.

The interior designer incorporated lush fabrics with painted wood tables and a patterned area rug to create a cozy space. Layered window treatments enhance the cathedral ceiling, as well as provide light control. These treatments also serve to mask the inconsistency of the window placement. The designer created a cozy space to enjoy, with or without the men in the household.
